Weekly Photo Challenge – Big #4 -Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls, Juneau, Alaska

This is my 4th entry in response to the Weekly Photo Challenge:  Big.

The pictures were taken in September, 2012, during a family reunion trip  on a cruise from Seattle to Alaska.  This was my second time visiting this beautiful site within two years.   It was raining last time but we were lucky this time.  Although there was heavy rain in the morning, the rain stopped when we arrived.  Therefore we were able to walk into the Nugget Falls trail and see both the glacier and the falls.

Don’t you think that the glacier and the falls are “big” with the “little” people there?  I was one of the little people.  I suddenly became philosophical.  Let me ask you a question:  How do you see yourself in the huge universe?   You reply: How do I see myself amidst the phenomena of nature?

Obviously I don’t know the answer.  Somehow I found this quote which seems to be relevant: “Our task must be to free ourselves…by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty.” ~Albert Einstein

What do you think?   I am still waiting for an answer!

Happy Wednesday!

An excellent question. We are surrounded by vastness, yet it is only when we understand that we are part of that vastness do we know our place, our way to participate.
