This post is in response to the Weekly Photo Challenge: Bridge
To me, the Bridge is a representation of connection, communication, economic and social relationship, cultural heritage, and means of commute.
On the other hand, if you look up the meaning of Bridge in the Webster Dictionary, you will find these:
“1 a : a structure carrying a pathway or roadway over a depression or obstacle (such as a river); a bridge connecting the island to the mainland.
b : a time, place, or means of connection or transition; building a bridge between the two cultures; the bridge from war to peace.
2. something resembling a bridge in form or function: such as
a : the upper bony part of the nose broke the bridge of his nose; also : the part of a pair of glasses that rests upon it.
b music : a piece raising the strings of a musical instrument — see violin illustration
c nautical : the forward part of a ship’s superstructure (see superstructure 2b) from which the ship is navigated
d railroads : gantry
e billiards : the hand as a rest for a cue; also : a device used as a cue rest.
3. a music : a passage linking two sections of a composition
b dentistry : a partial denture anchored to adjacent teeth
c chemistry : a connection (such as an atom or group of atoms) that joins two different parts of a molecule (such as opposite sides of a ring)
4. physics : an electrical instrument or network for measuring or comparing resistances …..”
Wow! Isn’t it amazing? So, how should I use my photos to illustrate all these meanings? I searched through my albums and found these few photos that I took during some of the trips that I took. There are not too many of them though I came across many bridges and crossed many bridges all these years. Indeed I have to travel from the East Bay where I live to travel to San Francisco to work every day! But I did not take any of these photos.
Below are a few photos of bridges which I took during some of my travels. I think they represent a spectrum of cultures, art and science. This post will only give you a glimpse of these images and representations in different countries. There are so much to talk about: its history, its function, its cultural heritage. There are so much to ponder upon, and explore.
The Bridge–what an important invention in the human world! Please enjoy the connection you will create when you look at these pictures, and communicate. Thank you!
